The education for Dental Chairside Assistants alternates between periods of practical training in a dental clinic and shorter college-based periods. The education takes 3 years, but the time can be extended or reduced, depending on the background of the student.

Most students start the education with the basic course that varies from 10 to 60 weeks. The lengths depend on the students learning capacity. The student need to attain a specific set of competences. This can take between 10 - 60 weeks, however for most students this is achieved within 20 weeks. After having finished the basic course the student will have to sign a contract with a dental clinic to finish the education.
